The Wheel of Light

Monthly Newsletter - June 2009

The most significant transits this month are those that continue patterns established earlier in the year. For example, the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction that began in April is still operative. This transit brings opportunities for consciousness development through connection to friends or by participating in group situations. It can also enable us to tap into joyful optimism by being inspired by others or by feeling accepted and included by others. This is a very nice antidote to the financial doom and gloom that seems to be surrounding us.

Venus and Mars also continue their conjunction. This aspect provides an opportunity to integrate our feminine and masculine energies. This month these planets are in Taurus, a sign that prioritizes security and stability in relationship. It is also an artistic sign, and these planets combined can indicate the desire to begin a new art project or to get involved in the arts for the first time. Taurus also values security in the material and financial sense. This implies that this could be a month when the financial markets begin to stabilize and credit begins to flow, although probably slowly at first.

Beyond these transits, the most important ones this month all effect the Sun. Although we will all be affected by these energies, those of us most influenced with be people whose Sun sign or rising sign is Leo or any of the mutable signs – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. But for all of us, these aspects could impact our self-esteem, our creativity, our health and vitality and our ability to give and receive love.

The first of these transits is a square between the Sun and Saturn which occurs from the 1st-9th. Squares are ninety-degree angular relationships between the planets. It represents an internal challenge in which two parts of ourselves are striving for different kinds of expression. For example, the Sun is in Gemini and Saturn is in Virgo. Both signs tend to be linear and logical. They also enjoy learning new things. But Gemini enjoys ideas for the sake of ideas. It can thrive by writing or teaching. Virgo, on the other hand, wants to apply the information in practical ways. Virgo can focus on how certain information can help to understand something more clearly or function in a certain context more efficiently. So this square challenges us to be open to ideas that are interesting in and of themselves, while simultaneously seeking to apply that same information in pragmatic ways.

The second of these is a square between the Sun and Uranus. The Sun transiting through Gemini is being challenged by Uranus in Pisces. Both are mutable signs, meaning that they are adaptable, service oriented and prioritize learning. While Gemini focuses on linear information, Pisces is more intuitive. Gemini is social, Pisces is reclusive. Gemini want to serve within a social context, Pisces is fine with being behind the scenes. The challenge of this aspect is to integrate the information gained from left-brained analysis and right-brained intuition. The integration of the two hemispheres of the brain expands our consciousness and helps develop wisdom.

The third transit is an opposition between the Sun and Pluto, from the 19th-24th. The opposition creates challenges between the self and others. Any relationship provides the opportunity to learn more about the self. Hence, one benefit to an opposition is that it can enhance self-awareness. By being open to feedback from our friend or partner we learn how they experience us. In turn, this clarity can lead us in a direction that will enable us to grow, achieve something new and grow through the entire experience.

The Sun-Pluto opposition represents an archetypal confrontation between our conscious ego self and the internal often subconscious self.. The former likes to be expressive while receiving supportive recognition and feedback, the latter prefers to be more private but also more aware of the truth of who we really are. If we are engaged in an ongoing process of self-examination, this transit will help us to deal with our deep, authentic self in a conscious and productive way. If we don’t tend to be involved in the process, we could expect to be confronted by other people. They may be motivated by a desire for us to open up to them and create an emotionally honest and intimate relationship. But they may be so altruistic and instead want to establish power over us in some way. If you experience the confrontational potential of this transit, first determine why you are being confronted. Is it for closeness or control? If it’s the former, this could a good relationship to learn about yourself and to get closer to the other person. If it’s the latter, let the other person know your experience of them and then leave the relationship.

Challenges to your sense of material security could be up for you to address this month. So the balancing also involves defining and enforcing limits and boundaries between yourself and others around these issues.

PiscesPisces (Feb 20-March 20)
Your co-ruling planets, Jupiter and Neptune are conjunct to each other this whole month. This continues the pattern of spiritual inspiration that began in April. To take full advantage of this aspect it would be beneficial to relate to others in a group format. In addition to feelings of spiritual support and inspiration, any of these situations could lead to profound feelings of optimism and joy.
